Development Cooperation & Humanitarian Aid
Development cooperation (DC) and the fight against poverty should concern
us all - only "wanting to help" is not enough. Apart from financial
support, also expertise, specialty knowledge, work experience and a serious
attitude are required. DC is neither the right environment to "try out
new things" nor to train unemployed young doctors. The demands for medical
personnel working in DC are high. Doctors working in developing countries
are confronted with diseases rarely seen in developed countries. Apart from
training in tropical medicine, extended knowledge is necessary in the fields
of preventive medicine, traditional healing, nutrition, water supply and
environment.
