Basic Disciplines of Public Health

The five basic disciplines of public health include:

• Epidemiology
  The study of incidence and distribution of diseases as well as their causes and associated risk factors in different population groups, their course and social and economical consequences



• Biostatistics
  Statistical methods in biology and medicine



• Health Promotion
  Measures for productive change of individual behavior and living conditions conductive to better health



• Health Care Systems
  Administration of medical needs, resources, processes and results of disease prevention and the fight against disease



• Environmental Health
  The science concerned with controlling and changing environmental factors with a potential influence on human health.
